Dear JG Researchers,
I am investigating a branch of cousins who went by the surname of Khvat (aka Chwat,
Kwatt, etc.)There are several matzevot dating from about 1850 to 1929 in the
Okopowa Cemetery in Warsaw showing this as the family surname. My question is about
the origins of this surname.
Could this be an acronym surname or one based on a geographical origin or what?
Please bear in mind that this is a family of Cohanim so there could be a
rabbinical origin to the name as well.
Thank in advance for any insights.
